The forms below differ in which list of names is used and how many offerings accompany it — from the ashtottara through to the Shiva Sahasranama, where a thousand and eight bilva leaves are offered against the thousand and eight names.

Bilva patra carries particular weight in Shaiva practice and is the customary material for it, which is why bilva archana is named separately from archana with flowers.
