Durga Saptashati Path, also known as Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path, is a revered scripture-based worship of the Divine Mother found within the Markandeya Purana. The text contains 13 chapters and 700 verses, describing the glory, divine power, and victories of Devi in her various manifestations. The text narrates three principal episodes: the destruction of Madhu and Kaitabha, the slaying of Mahishasura, and the destruction of Shumbha, Nishumbha, and other forces of adharma. It also contains the celebrated Narayani Stuti, through which the Devas praise the Divine Mother. During a traditional Durga Saptashati Path, the Acharya performs the required Sankalp and devotional preparations before reciting the sacred chapters. Depending on the tradition, supporting recitations such as Devi Kavach, Argala Stotra and Kilaka Stotra may also form part of the worship. The Path is especially associated with Navratri and other occasions dedicated to Devi worship.
