Above Tulsi Ghat, near the confluence of the Asi and the Ganga, this ancient stepped tank is dedicated to Lolark Aditya, an incarnation of the Sun God — its name meaning 'trembling sun', for the way sunlight wavers across its water. Copper-plate inscriptions record royal patronage going back to the Gahadavala kings, and Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar carried out repairs and additions here in the 18th century, making it one of the oldest continuously used sacred sites in Kashi.
