The Lalita Sahasranama gives a thousand names of Lalita Tripura Sundari and comes from the Brahmanda Purana, where it is taught by the sages Hayagriva and Agastya. In archana it is not read but offered: each name is spoken and answered with a pinch of kumkum or a flower placed on the yantra, so the recitation and the worship advance together. The order of the names is not arbitrary. It moves from the goddess's outward attributes inward toward her subtlest description, which is the same movement the Sri Chakra makes from its outer enclosures to the bindu — one reason the text and the yantra are worked together in this tradition.
Within Shri Vidya the Sahasranama is treated as a shastra rather than a eulogy: its sequence encodes the same inward progression as the Sri Chakra, and it is traditionally recited after the yantra has been worshipped and the Vidya mantra taken up. Offering each name individually — archana rather than parayana — is what distinguishes this rite from a straight reading of the text.
